Academic affairs search

President Steve Scott will be reporting to the university community on the progress of searching for two positions that report to the president and that serve on the President's Council. Position announcements for the positions are now posted on the PSU Web site.

Presentation
on Kyrgyzstan

The Center for Central Asian Business and Research will hold a country-themed presentation of Kyrgyzstan from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in 409 Russ Hall. Abjapar Ergeshov will speak on the geography, history, social and political structure, science, culture and education in Kyrgyzstan. For more information, call Choong Lee at 235-4587.
 
Study abroad in Mexico

Julia Helminiak will lead a study abroad program to Oaxaca, Mexico from Sunday, May 16, to Monday, May 31. The first meeting will be from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Room 101 in the HHPR office at the Student Recreation Center. The second meeting will be 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, in Room 102 Grubbs Hall. For more information, e-mail Helminiak at jhelmini@pittstate.edu or call her at 235-4221.

WAC workshops

At 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, deans, directors, chairs and contact persons will participate in a hybrid course design that offers and teaches how to begin designing their own hybrid courses. Janet Zepernick will present the WAC workshop. If attending, RSVP to tsherman@pittstate.edu by Wednesday, Nov. 18.
 
Gingerbread house contest

On Monday, Nov. 30, the gingerbread house contest begins. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take part in the judging that will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Overman Student Center. For details and rules, visit www.pittstate.edu/alumni.

PSU observes Smokeout Thursday

Pittsburg State University will observe the annual Great American Smokeout with a presentation and educational materials on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Overman Student Center.
J.T. Knoll, campus prevention and wellness coordinator, will present "It's not the smoker . . . It's the smoke: Health facts about secondhand smoke and community options for change," at 10 a.m. in the Governors Room. Throughout the day, an information table in the main level lounge of the student center will feature a stop-smoking display and phone and Internet help for smokers wishing to quit.
