The Student Government Association discussed bringing local legislators to PSU during Wednesday night's meeting.
Legislative affairs director Thomas Gregory said he wanted to invite state senators and representatives to Pitt State next semester.
"In the spring we do two capital visits," Gregory said. "One in February for the Student Advisory Council, and one in April as part of Pitt Day on the Hill. I thought it would a good idea that in between those that we invite area legislators to campus and tour, and maybe address this group."
Gregory said that scheduling early for this is a must.
"One thing that (legislators) love is coming out of their offices and coming to universities where their constituents are represented," Gregory said. "I'm asking you very far in advance because their schedules fill up really fast. I was going to get that started this week."
President Andrea Cole updated the student senate on the happenings of the faculty senate.
The faculty senate discussed the topic of the new inclement weather policy and Cole said professors in the past had a tough decision to make.
"The provost came, Dr. Olson, and talked about changes to the class cancellation policy," Cole said. "A lot of teachers were feeling pressured when the list got a little bit longer to cancel classes. The university would go ahead and either cancel classes for the whole day or possibly having late starts. It doesn't risk random cars in the parking lot where they can't completely get the snow and ice off."
Vice president Samantha Heady said there are three vacancies in the Senate and applications are available in the SGA office.
Sen. Austin Osborn was nominated as senator of the month for his hard work during SGA's canned food drive at Yell Like Hell.
SGA will meet next week at 7 p.m. in the Overman Student Center. Students are invited to voice their concerns at student opinion time.
