Steve Scott, Pittsburg State University's provost and vice president of academic affairs has been selected to become the schools ninth president. He will replace President Tom Bryant, who last August announced his plans to retire as president after 10 years in the post.
The Kansas Board of Regents selected Scott among a field of four finalists, each of whom visited the campus for a series of interviews with faculty, staff and students.
Scott holds a bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University, a master's degree from Oklahoma State University, an Ed.S. degree from Pittsburg State University, and an Ed.D. degree from Oklahoma State University.
Scott taught at Northeastern A&M College before joining the PSU faculty in the College of Education in 1989. He has worked at PSU for 20 years. He was named chairman of the Department of Special Services and Leadership Studies in 1995 and dean of the College of Education in 1999. He was named to his current position as provost and vice president for academic affairs in 2006.
The other three finalists considered were Fletcher Lamkin, a faculty member at the Dominican University of California; Diana Carlin, a member of the University of Kansas faculty; and Thomas Keon, dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida.
Scott's appointment begins July 1.
