Pitt State softball suffered two losses this weekend, but the team was able to steal a win from Emporia State, which is currently the No. 1 seed in the conference.

On April 25, the Gorillas faced Southwest Baptist, dropping the game 2-3.

"Baptist was a letdown, we should have had them," said head coach Brad Horky.

The team took on Emporia the following day, losing the first game 1-3. It came back for the win in the second game, 2-1.
Emporia ended its regular season 36-15, 15-3 MIAA.
"We beat Emporia for the first time in six years. They were the top team in the region and the conference," said Horky. "That was a pretty good win."

The team then faced Drury University in a non-conference showing on April 29.

"We played well in the first game, not so well the second," said Horky.

The Gorillas split the wins, taking the first game 10-1, but dropping the second 4-5.

"We played a non-conference game instead of practicing," said Horky. "We scheduled that game on purpose."

Last weekend's games ended the softball regular season, and Pitt State is currently the No. 4 conference seed. This gives the team a spot in the MIAA tournament, which begins Thursday, May 1, in Shawnee.

The Gorillas will face Washburn, No. 5 seed.
"Washburn will be a close game - it will probably come down to the last inning," said Horky.

Washburn ended its regular season 28-24, with 10-8 MIAA.
"Our goal is to win the tournament, as is everyone's," said Horky. "All the teams are good, so anyone can win."
