Two PSU athletes earned weekly MIAA honors for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 24.
Jeremy Jackson, a 6-foot-0, 210-pound junior from Burton, Texas, logged an automatic qualifying mark for nationals in his first competition of the season at the UCM Classic on Friday, Feb. 22.
He was clocked in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.97 seconds to win the event and record a personal-best time. He had missed most of the season recovering from a leg injury suffered while playing football for the Gorillas.
Jackson, an outside linebacker in the fall for PSU, is a graduate of Burton High School, and transferred to Pitt State from Blinn (Texas) College after his freshman track season.
Cory Abercrombie, a 6-foot-7, 243-pound senior from Piedmont, S.C., averaged 23.0 points and 11 rebounds for the Gorillas as they went 1-1 last week.
He had 26 points and 11 rebounds in an 88-71 home win over Emporia State on Wednesday, Feb. 20. He was 12-of-17 from the field vs. the Hornets, and scored nine points in the game-opening 28-6 run.
In a 76-71 road loss at No. 18 Southwest Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 23, Abercrombie scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He scored 12 points in the first half.
Abercrombie is a graduate of Palmetto High School, and transferred to PSU from Independence Community College.
