Students will be able to fill out registration forms at tables located throughout the campus. In order to register, photo identification must be presented when completing the form. Current voting laws state that college students may become registered voters within the city, county and state in which they attend school. Another option, according to Tim Rhodes, Alpha Chi Omega chapter president, is for students to register in their hometown, which would require filling out an absentee ballot. "We are getting all of our materials from Rock the Vote and then we will send the registration forms back to them and they will forward them to their respective states," Rhodes said. "We ordered 1,500 registration forms and we hope to get that many people registered." The Pond Monkeys, Fairfield and other local acts will take the stage from 3 to 8 p.m. in Gorilla Village, concluding the event. The concert is free of charge to all who would like to attend. In addition to music, there will be informational tables set up by local politicians. Students will also be able to register to vote during the concert. "The idea for Rock the Vote spawned from a president's meeting at the end of last year when the campus activities center wanted ideas for campus events, and from that point we started contacting bands," Rhodes said. The Student Government Association is assisting in coordinating the event and plans to hold its first official meeting of the year during Rock the Vote. |
